The Old Forth Road Bridge, spanning the Firth of Forth and connecting Edinburgh to the historic county of Fife to the north, was first opened in 1964. At the time it was the longest suspension bridge in the World outside of the USA. In 2017, the newly constructed Queensferry Crossing Forth Bridge replaced it as the primary road crossing across the Firth, however it is still used by public transport, cyclists and pedestrians. I took this photograph just after sunset, on a glorious evening in February 2012. Scotland has a long and proud tradition of fine engineering, and this has always been one of my favourites.
