Blue Shark. Fine Art Print. Prints Made to Order. 3 Sizes
Each year blue sharks arrive off the coast of Southwest Britain, normally sometime in mid-June and remaining until mid-October. Blues are true oceanic sharks; they inhabit deep water, only infrequently venturing on to shallower, continental shelf waters.

Open Edition Fine Art Print
Open edition means that there is no fixed limit to the number of prints I will produce. This should not be confused with high volume, mass produced prints that one can buy on the high street or through large online companies. Here, each print is individually produced, generally using superior materials and printing processes. The Paper
The prints are produced on Canson Infinity Baryta 310gsm paper or Iford Gallerie Gold Fibre Silk Baryta 310gsm paper (other papers are available). Baryta papers have revolutionised modern digital-age printing by restoring the level of detail, deep blacks, vivid whites and wide colour range previously only available using traditional darkroom photographic paper. I specifically chose this paper because of its exceptional ability to faithfully replicate colour and vividness, its great longevity and its barium sulphate coating. This aids capture of intricate details and definition in the print, has excellent archival qualities and helps in replicating the look of traditional darkroom prints.

On a clear July morning I stumbled out of my bunk (I was living on a boat at the time) at 5.30am, forced out my the insistent buzzing of my phone alarm. One hour, and one strong coffee later, I squeezed my dive bag into the back of a friend's car and we were off. We had over a hundred miles to cover, to get to the far tip of Cornwall, and a boat to catch. We were on the water by 8am, and by 9 we were drifting lazily, waiting for our first shark. And we waited. At 4pm we decided to give it 20 more minutes. At 4:15 our first shark arrived. Then another. And then another. very carefully we slipped over the side of the boat and into the water, camera in hand.
Blue sharks are found in tropical and temperate oceans around the globe. However, in the tropics they tend to stay in deeper, cooler water but are often observed in surface waters in temperate seas. They feed on fast moving prey such as squid and schooling fish. Much of their feeding appears to be done in deeper waters.
