This photographic print of a great white shark is one of my favourites. One of the reasons I like it is that this is a film image, shot on photographic slide film. I have always loved the art of capturing images on film, and the look of film images. This shark print is for sale as fine art canvas wrap print. Canvas wrap prints, also known as ‘gallery wrap’ are where the canvas is stretched over a wooden frame (known as stretcher bars) and wraps around. Thus the image goes all the way to the edge. They arrive ready to hang, with no additional framing required. My canvas prints are archival quality (not to be confused with cheap, mass produced canvas prints) using state of the art pigment ink technology. Tests indicate such prints are fade free for 100+ years out of direct sunlight. Here you are buying direct from the photographer (that’s me). Each print is individually produced to order, to your specifications. To view the full image, for more details about each print and for purchasing options, click the thumbnail images.
Great White Shark

Each year blue sharks arrive off the coast of Southwest Britain, normally sometime in mid-June and remaining until mid-October. Blues are true oceanic sharks; they inhabit deep water, only infrequently venturing on to shallower, continental shelf waters (more about this image below)
The Image
I took this photograph of a great white shark around 15 years ago, off the coast of Mexico. The leisurely, almost serene, way a great white swims for most of the time belies the sudden, explosive speed they can turn on without warning. An apex predator, they are a vital part of the ocean’s food chain. The photograph was shot on film, on a Nikonos V camera with a 15mm lens. Nikonos Vs were 35mm underwater cameras, utlising a design first developed by Jean de Wouters and Jacques Cousteau. The 15mm prime lens is still considered one of the finest underwater lenses even today. Shot on Fuji Velvia 100 iso slide film, this is a colour image I have converted to black and white. This is a film image. You can clearly see the film grain in the image. If you are looking for the crisp, clean look of a modern digital image, this is not for you. It is, and looks like, a film image, and that is how it is intended. This look appeals to many, but not all. Having worked with film for many decades, I have great fondness for such images, and the ‘filmic look’. (The large signature is on the web image only – not the actual print)
