I am now selling some of my favourite photographs taken over the past 20 or so years as acrylic facemount prints. I’ve decided to split these into manageable and more easily searchable categories based on the photographic subject. The first of these is the people of Papua New Guinea, but more will follow.

What exactly are acrylic facemount prints?

So what are acrylic facemount prints you may ask, and why should I chose them? Acrylic prints are, I’m sure this won’t surprise you, prints create in or on sheets of acrylic. It’s a relatively new technique and has a number of advantages over traditional techniques such as printing on canvas. The colours tend to be more vibrant and the details razor-sharp. Canvas colours can be a little more muted and the detail not quite as sharp simply due to the nature of the medium. Acrylic prints also have much better longevity than canvas or metal prints, and the image is protected by a layer of acrylic, which protects the sensitive dyes from most of the UV light which otherwise would cause them to fade.

Not all acrylic prints are the same.

Acrylic prints can be direct printed or facemount printed. Direct printing is is easier and cheaper. However, it does not have the same colour accuracy, longevity or sharpness as facemount printing. With facemount printing the image is printed on to quality photographic paper – the best medium for faithful reproduction of photographic images. This is is then fixed to a dibond (or similar backing) and face-mounted directly onto a thin layer of acrylic, so that it is sandwiched between the two. The refraction of light through the acrylic helps give added luminosity to the image. I have chosen to have my prints created in one of the best (in my opinion) high end art print shops in the UK. This does not make them the cheapest, but it does reflect the quality. Shipping rates are automatically calculated for UK, Europe, USA and Canada.

Acrylic facemount prints of Papua New Guinea

This is the first gallery of acrylic prints I have created. I have been very fortunate to visit Papua New Guinea a number of times in recent years, from inland trips up the Sepik River to a number of remote islands. I have found the people of PNG to be among the friendliest kindest people I have met travelling. However, it is also that there is significant problems, especially in more remote areas, in access to education and adequate healthcare. In order to be able to give something back I have decided that 20% of all profits generated from sales of these prints will go to a charity supporting health services, education and working to address environmental problems in Papua New Guinea. More details about this can be found on the prints page, following the link below. The prints are available as 10 x 15 inch prints in 2mm acrylic. They are printed in the UK, in one of the best (in my opinion) high end art print shops in the UK. Shipping rates are automatically calculated for UK, Europe, USA and Canada. Outside of those regions please email me first. You can browse and purchase prints directly from me through my website here. Acrylic prints of Papua New Guinea.
