Underwater Photography for beginners
Course date: Saturday 24th of April 2010
A one day intensive course to introduce the fundamentals of underwater photography and teach you the basic skills.
The course is ideal for those who have just bought their first underwater camera or are looking to gain basic skills before they buy. The course is also suitable for those with experience in land photography looking to venture into underwater photography.
Course requirements: To attend the theory and dry practical sessions no previous experience is necessary. To participate in the pool session you must be a qualified diver (PADI Open Water Diver, BSAC Ocean Diver or equivalent). You must also have a current diving medical. If in doubt please email me. To participate in the pool sessions you must bring your own personal pool equipment (regulator, mask, fins, swimming costume or wetsuit, weightbelt if needed for pool work, air cylinder and stab jacket/backpack). A small number of cylinders and other equipment is available to hire. Contact me if you require any equipment.
 
What the course will cover: The day will include a series of tution sessions to teach you the underlying theory of underwater photography. These will include practical demonstrations and hands on practice. There will also be a two hour pool session to try out the skills learned and practice with different camera set-ups. .
The workshop will include:
How underwater photography differs from surface photography
  How light behaves underwater
  Digital SLR, compact and film based camera systems - choosing a system for you
  Lenses for underwater photography
  Lighting for underwater photography - available light, strobe and continuous lighting
  Wide angle and macro photography: principles, equipment and technique
  Hands-on practical sessions: setting up your camera system, testing & checking for leaks, stripping down systems and system care.
  A two hour pool session, where you will try out various housed and amphibious camera systems
  A Course Certificate will be awarded to all who complete the course
   
Venue
Theory and dry practical sessions will be held at The Studio photography studios, Exeter Quayside, Exeter, Devon. The pool session will be held in the 25 metre pool at Riverside Leisure Centre. This is approximately 300 metres from The Studio. Both are situated in or near Exeter's historic quayside in the centre of Exeter.
Workshop Fee
The cost of attending the workshop is £95. This cost covers both classroom and pool sessions. A £40 deposit is required to confirm a place on the workshop. The balance must be paid prior to starting the course.
  The number of places will be strictly limited to ensure all participants are given full attention during the workshop. Early booking is therefore recommended.
