Introduction to Photo-editing & Photoshop

Just got your new digital camera but confused by some of the jargon about digital images?
or maybe you can't seem to get the best out of your images once you've downloaded them?
Not sure about the different image formats- JPEG, TIFF, RAW, PSD, GIF, which to use? what the differences are?
Can't get to grips with file size, resolution, re-sizing, resampling? whats the best size and format for a web page? for emailing? for printing? for publishing?
What are layers? how do I work with them? what do I use them for?
How do I correct over or under-exposure?
How do I improve colour?
How do I bring detail out of shadows?
How do I reduce red-eye in my images?
How do I improve skin tone or remove unwanted marks in my pictures?
When should I sharpen an image and by how much?
This four hour course will explain how to get the best out of your images and how to use the key tools in your photo-editing software. The course is aimed at those using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements but much of the techniques and principles will be applicable to other editing tools such as Paintshop Pro and Photoimpact. The course is taught on windows based machines but you are welcome to bring your Mac laptop if that is what you are working with.
The courses will be held at our studio on Exeter. Evening course will runover two nights, from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. Monring courses will run from 9am until 1pm.

The course will include:
Image transfer: getting your pictures from camera to computer
  Storing, organising and backing up your images
  Image file formats: what they are and how they differ, which to use and when
  Photoshop/PS Elements: the layout - toolbars, menus and palettes
  Cropping and re-sizing images, saving versions
  Adjusting images: levels, colour and contrast
  Adjusting images: hue, saturation, exposure, shadow/highlight
  Adjusting images: sharpening
  Adjusting images: working with layers and selections
  Removing unwanted marks: the healing brush and clone stamp
  Removing red-eye
Venue
Theory and dry practical sessions will be held at The Studio photography studios, Exeter Quayside, Exeter, Devon.
Course Fee
The cost of attending the workshop is £50. A £20 deposit is required to confirm a place on the workshop. The balance must be paid prior to starting the course.
  The number of places will be strictly limited to ensure all participants are given full attention during the course. Early booking is therefore recommended.
